Back from Anaheim! CHA was FUN!
Please see my “page” on my trip to CHA….on the right——-”Home from Winter CHA…”
I have some other pictures to show you of my trip to Anaheim! The Anaheim area was so beautiful while we were there, I just had to take a few pictures of the flowers outside of my hotel! I saw the most beautiful and largest “hens and chicks” I’ve ever seen in my life, these cute succulant plants are usually 3-8″ across, but these in the picture were about 14″ across or more! WOW, aren’t they beautifull! We just don’t have enough humidity to make these guys happy like they are in Anaheim, in Henderson, NV! Check them out!!—-
Here is a beautiful Bird of Paradise!
These were just a little bit of the beautiful flowers that surrounded me as I walked to the convention center each day. I was close enough to walk, and so I chose not to take the shuttle! Very refreshing from living in the desert!
I was able to attend an interview given by my friend Renee Sparks. She interviewed Carol Duvall during the trade show. Carol talked about how she started in television working on a station “filling” time between segments. She was supposed to keep the audiences attention, so she had about 1-1/2 minutes to entertain and fill as she pleased. She said many times it was just talking, but then progressed into mini craft segments to keep the audience’s attention. It was a lot of fun to hear her talk about her many, many years of experience and how she got to do the Carol Duvall show. I was lucky to get a picture of her with me!
Just after the interview they surprised her with one of her very good friends, Priscilla Hauser. Priscilla was on her show a lot showing her how to paint. Well, Carol always said that she could never do it, but Priscilla persisted and showed her that it is very easy to do! I worked with Priscilla for a little while when we were both working with Walnut Hollow. So, I asked if I could get a picture of the two of us!
Priscilla is such a hoot! If you have any interest in learning how to paint you need to attend one of her seminars and you’ll never regret it!
I met with some Magazine editors and “sold” about 16 designs! YEAH! They will be published beginning with the December 2008 issue of Create and Decorate magazine and then go into the 2009 year. Sounds like a long time away, doesn’t it, well, magazines are typically working a year ahead! I like working with Create and Decorate magazine because their magazine publishes different types of projects, such as quilting, painting, wool felt, stitchery, beaded, etc. designs..so a lot of my designs “fit” in their magazine. I’ll keep you posted on the issues in my website!
UPDATE (11-2008): I had to cancel these magazine projects because of health issues.
In my next post, I’ll have a cute pattern for identifying your luggage! I happen to see a very creative idea and now will have to create one for myself and I’ll share my version of the pattern with you! Be sure to subscribe to my blog and so you won’t miss the pattern. I think I’ll have a contest to see who can create the best one!
Stay tuned!
talk more later…happy crafting, sewing, quilting, etc.!
Denise
I’m leavin’ on a jet plane! CHA, here I come!
Well—tomorrow is the day I leave for Winter CHA in Anaheim, CA! My flight is early, so that means up early, too! I’m excited, I always love going to these trade shows, especially love seeing my friends again! The wonderful friendships of other designers is priceless! We will all get together on Monday night and visit and talk and then visit and talk more about how we can benefit the craft and design industry! YEAH!
I finished my challenge jacket! I’ll post a picture of it, now, since everyone will be at the show, too! So, I don’t have to worry about others seeing what their competition will be. I love how it turned out, especially love the way the beads match with the fabric and the fringe! Click on the picture to see a larger image! I took a tailoring class in college and learned how to construct suits and slacks. Clothing and Textiles was my major and I loved it!
See you next time! Denise
